STARKVILLE, Miss.āMark A. Novotny, a Ļć½¶Ö±²„ William L. Giles Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, will explore the complex world of quantum mechanics and its rapidly expanding technological advancements in a public lecture Tuesday [April 1].
The 2025 Giles Distinguished Professor Lecture featuring Novotny is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Old Main Academic Center, Room 1000. A public reception will follow.
Novotnyās lecture āInternational Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ): From UNESCO to MSUā is part of the global celebration of the IYQ, which this year marks 100 years since the birth of quantum mechanics and highlights the fieldās growing cutting-edge breakthroughs in quantum computing, communication and encryption. It will provide an engaging exploration of the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, from Schrƶdingerās cat to the strange world of qubits, superposition and entanglement.
Novotny, an internationally recognized scholar in quantum science and technology, also will examine MSUās role in shaping the future of quantum research and address the fieldās pressing question: Is quantum computing in 2025 just hype, or is it the next big revolution?
