Theatre Ļć½¶Ö±²„debuts spring semester with āMedeaā and āShe Kills Monstersā

STARKVILLE, Miss.āĻć½¶Ö±²„ās Theatre Ļć½¶Ö±²„opens its spring season with productions of āMedeaā and āShe Kills Monsters,ā showcasing the two most popular genres of theaterātragedy and comedy.

āM±š»å±š²¹,ā running Feb. 26 through March 1, 7:30 p.m., and March 2, 2 p.m., is directed by senior Kylie Alyse Dowd of Clinton in her directorial debut. Dowd, a fine arts major, brings a fresh perspective to a bold reimagining of the Greek tragedy.

ā'Medea' is a gripping Greek tragedy by Euripides that delves into themes of love, betrayal and vengeance,ā Dowd said. āSet in a timeless and placeless context, the story follows Medea, a woman who has sacrificed her homeland and family for the love of her husband, Jason. When Jason abandons Medea for a younger, wealthier bride, Medeaās world shatters.ā Ģż
Closing out the spring semester, āShe Kills Monstersā runs April 23 to 26, 7:30 p.m., and April 27, 2 p.m.
Bringing Dungeons and Dragons to life through humor, the play follows Agnes Evans as she embarks on a journey of discovery after finding her late sister Tillyās D&D notebook.
āTheyāll see some awesome puppets, some swords clashing, and some monsters get whatās coming to them,ā said Jesse Wade, play director and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Communication.

In addition to the upcoming productions, Tonya Hays, assistant professor of theater performance in MSUās Department of Communication, highlighted a major milestone for the program.
Jacob Uithoven, an ACCESS student from Beldin, played a lead role in last semesterās production of Charlotteās Web and recently showcased his talents on a larger stage. He, along with his scene partner Aidan Levyāa junior majoring in interdisciplinary studies from Bay St. Louisācompeted in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV competition. Both students earned recognition as Irene Ryan Scholarship nominees, a prestigious honor in collegiate theater.
