STARKVILLE, Miss.ā€”Founded and organized by Mississippi State students, a new undergraduate research journal prepares to build undergraduate scholarsā€™ portfolios.

Endeavors, an open-access journal, launched in fall 2024 will publish the diverse talents of students campuswide. The journal is supported by the office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Discovery. The editorial board includes current graduate students and Ļć½¶Ö±²„alumni from each of the universityā€™s colleges. Published research in Endeavors is available online and indexed in search engines for maximum visibility. The journal is spearheaded by editors-in-chief Alyssa Williams and Muneebah Umar. Williams, a senior biochemistry and psychology major, and Umar, a senior biological sciences major, said the journal has more than 60 undergraduate reviewers from nearly every Ļć½¶Ö±²„department. Both Williams and Umar are also students in the Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College.

Endeavors
Endeavors, an open-access journal, launched in fall 2024 will publish the diverse talents of Ļć½¶Ö±²„undergraduate students campuswide. Journal submissions are accepted until March 1.

ā€œWe are excited to start Endeavors, MSUā€™s first-ever, peer-reviewed undergraduate research journal,ā€ the editors said in a joint statement. ā€œResearch has been a huge part of our time at MSU, and we know there are many talented undergraduate students who want to share their work with a larger audience. However, the peer-review process can be intense and sometimes unreachable for undergraduates. Endeavors aims to bridge that gap and support undergraduate research at MSU.ā€

Scholars Junction, MSUā€™s repository for university research, hosts the journal through University Libraries. The libraryā€™s scholarly communication team, which supports Ļć½¶Ö±²„scholars throughout the research and creative process, works with the new journal on preservation, copyright and distribution.

ā€œThe team is thrilled to be able to contribute to MSUā€™s nurturing of undergraduate research, and to add Endeavors to the five other open-access journals we host through Scholars Junction,ā€ Julie Shedd, director of open scholarship initiatives at Ļć½¶Ö±²„Libraries and member of the scholarly communication team, said. ā€œWe know that this journal will help launch the careers of future scholars, tell the story of undergraduate research at Ļć½¶Ö±²„and contribute to open-access research worldwide.ā€
