Beloved childrenā€™s classic ā€˜Charlotteā€™s Webā€™ opens 2024 Theatre Ļć½¶Ö±²„season this month

STARKVILLE, Miss.ā€”Mississippi Stateā€™s Theatre MSUā€”the production division of the Department of Communicationā€”is launching its 2024-2025 season with a heartwarming classic, ā€œCharlotteā€™s Web.ā€

Part of the departmentā€™s Theatre for Young Adults program, the play based on E.B. Whiteā€™s novel will enchant young audiences through the touching friendship between Charlotte, the spider, and Wilbur, the pig.

Performances include school shows at the Ļć½¶Ö±²„Riley Center in Meridian on Sept. 24 and at the Ļć½¶Ö±²„McComas Hall mainstage in Starkville on Sept. 26-27, with a public university Lyceum Series show on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.

Later this fall, ā€œA Piece of My Heartā€ by Shirley Lauro will run from Nov. 20-22 and 24. The powerful drama tells the true stories of six women who served in Vietnam and explores their experiences before, during and after the war.

In the spring, Theatre Ļć½¶Ö±²„will present ā€œMedea,ā€ a classic Greek tragedy by Euripides, from Feb. 26-March 2. The play follows Medeaā€™s passionate and tragic revenge after her husband, Jason, abandons her.

The season concludes with ā€œShe Kills Monstersā€ by Qui Nguyen from April 23-27. This play delves into the game world of Dungeons and Dragons as Agnes Evans discovers a competition scenario left by her deceased sister, revealing new truths about their relationship.

Additionally, Theatre Ļć½¶Ö±²„will host the North Drama Fest on Dec. 6-7, welcoming regional high school students. The festival is facilitated by the Mississippi Theatre Association.

Student departmental organizations, including Labs Rats Comedy, Black Friars Drama Society, The Scene and Alpha Psi Omega will produce additional shows, films and activities this academic year.
