MSU’s State Singers to perform new work from world-renowned Swedish composer next week

STARKVILLE, Miss.—The Mississippi State Department of Music’s State Singers will perform a new work from Swedish composer Mårten Jansson next week.
The State Singers, MSU’s premiere choral-vocal ensemble, will present Jansson’s new work at the “Requiem Novum” concert Feb. 29., 7 p.m., at Starkville’s First Baptist Church, located at 106 East Lampkin Street.
Jansson is currently conducting a residency with the 㽶ֱMusic Department and will give a talk before the concert. The choir will perform under the direction of Phillip Stockton, 㽶ֱinterim director of choral studies.
Jansson is a classical music composer with a focus on sacral music. His works have been presented, published and commissioned worldwide. He received his master’s in music education from the Royal College of Music in Sweden and currently serves as a voice, music theory, conducting and choir teacher at Uppsala University in Sweden.
Founded in 2011, the State Singers have performed at national and international venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, the White House, and in other countries such as France, Czech Republic, Austria and Spain.
