Marler now leading 㽶ֱCollege of Business’s Department of Management and Information Systems

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Laura Marler, the Jim and Pat Coggin Endowed Professor of Management in Mississippi State’s College of Business, is beginning her new duties this month as head of the Department of Management and Information Systems.
“Dr. Marler is a great addition to the leadership team of the College of Business. She has been a tremendous asset to the college during her time here, and I look forward to seeing her continue to shape the future of the Department of Management and Information Systems in new and exciting ways,” said Sharon Oswald, college dean and professor of management.
As a researcher, Marler examines proactive personality and behavior in the workplace and has been published in top management journals, including the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Human Relations, and the Journal of Vocational Behavior.
Her research also focuses on understanding the management of human talent in family firms and has been funded by MSU’s Center for Family Enterprise Research. Her family firm research has been published in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Human Resource Management Review, and the Journal of Family Business Management, among others.
Marler co-founded the college’s Family Business Education Initiative in 2018 and conducts outreach sessions for small businesses in the region. She also serves on the editorial boards of the scholarly journals Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Human Resource Management, Group & Organization Management, and Managerial Issues.
Marler completed a Bachelor of Science in accounting at Louisiana College in 2002. She is a two-time graduate of Louisiana Tech University, earning a Master of Business Administration in management in 2004 and Doctor of Business Administration in organizational behavior and human resources in 2008.
